New cell-based platform for precise drug safety assessment
University of Konstanz - Dr.rer.nat. Clovis Hugues Seumen Tiogang

Project description:
The majority of people come into contact with medicines or substances that are injected or implanted into the body over the course of their lives. These products must be free of contamination, as otherwise serious complications such as inflammation or sepsis can occur. To ensure patient safety and health, testing of these products for pyrogenic contaminants (inflammatory substances) is mandatory. Currently, animal testing is still used for these tests because current alternative non-animal methods are too inaccurate and too slow. The InnoZell project aims to develop a comprehensive transfer strategy to commercialize the novel in vitro test system CellAlarm. CellAlarm is a human-based cell test system for the detection of pyrogens. The new test system is more sensitive, faster, and more cost-effective than conventional alternative methods, as well as ethically acceptable. During the exploratory phase of GO-Bio initial, the intellectual property rights situation will be clarified, the market and competition analyzed, and market launch concepts defined. At the same time, cooperation partners and experts will be involved to advance the project and verify and improve the novel test system. In parallel, the feasibility phase will be prepared.
